Young Adults

Our Young Adult Ministries

Morning Star’s Young Adult Ministry groups support high school graduates, college students and individuals up to age 35 and under.  Many participants are single adults whose primary activities revolve around work or school, but some have young families. The Ministry – formally known as PURPOSE - is committed to helping young adults understand God’s purpose for their lives through prayer, praise, worship, bible study and outreach.  PURPOSE is the umbrella structured with setting the overall vision and coordinating activities for the entire Ministry.  While these activities address  social and spiritual needs – two additional ministries  meet more specific needs for young adult men and college students.

Embracing Manhood is committed to engaging young men in different areas of their lives to promote security, knowledge, wisdom, and brotherhood.  Members seek to support young brothers through sessions and fellowship opportunities while providing positive leadership that they can identify with.

The Higher Heights College Ministry endeavors to lead college students into a healthy growing relationship with Christ by balancing the student and the Christian.  Their mission is to help students maintain Christian principles and remain in the body of Christ while facing an unsaved world.

Purpose meets on the First Friday of each month.

Embracing Manhood meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Higher Heights hosts a college breakfast on Sundays at 11:00 a.m.

Attention: Calling All Students and Parents. The Higher Heights College Ministry is in the process of creating a college ministry database to keep in contact with our students who are away at school. Please fill out the registration form below or see Minister Lamar Robinson or Dr. Ishmael Mitchell for more information.

Youth

Our Ministries for Youth

• Rites of Passage Young Men's Mentoring
• Daughters of Imani Program for Young Girls
• REAL Worship
• Fellowships and Activities

"Anyone who works in the church knows that junior high may be the single most pivotal period for spiritual decisions in the lives of our children."  Rick Warren, Senior Pastor of Saddleback Church

Two significant life-phases overlap during the young-teen years: the openness and responsive characteristic of childhood; and the forward-looking attitudes of teenage years.  Young people are open to Christ during these years and Morning Star provides ministry opportunities which shape and strengthen the faith of our youth.  One of the biggest challenges to this vision is the fact that young teens experience change in every aspect of development: physical, emotional, cognitive, relational and social.  A full-time youth minister, along with a host of committed ministry volunteers work diligently to ensure Morning Star ministers to the young person in their entirety.

The Youth Ministries of Morning Star are committed to developing holistic ministry opportunities that put our young people in the best position to succeed in life.  This is done by instilling in them an understanding of who God is, godly principles; a strong sense of value and purpose; educational importance; and the tools required to be successful in life.

Our mentoring programs - Rites of Passage and Daughters of Imani - are nationally recognized, providing weekly instruction in professional, social and spiritual development.  Our REAL Worship experience provides fellowship and spiritual growth opportunities. In addition, there is an array of social activities that provide youth with the opportunity to have fun, bond and develop life-long friendships.

The Rites of Passage Young Men's Mentoring is coordinated by a group of dedicated men from our Men's Ministry.  Sessions meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month @11:30 a.m.

The Daughters of Imani Young Ladies Mentoring is committed to training our young ladies into becoming jewels in the church and in the community.  Sessions meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month @11:30 a.m.

REAL Worship is a complete Worship experience hosted by and for our young people on the 1st Sunday of each month at 9:30 a.m.

Youth Bible Study meets on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Fellowships and Activities are held throughout the year. Specific information is available on the Events section of the website or from members of the Youth Ministry volunteer team.

Important Note:
All volunteers who work with our children and youth must complete the MSBC Abuse Prevention and Risk Management Plan training.  The training program provides critical information and training for persons who volunteer in our children and youth programs.  In addition to completing the training, volunteers must also agree to a criminal background check.  Ministering to, and at the same time, protecting OUR children is of paramount importance to the Ministry.  For more information regarding this training program, contact the Church's Director of Human Resources by Clicking Here.

Our Front-Line Ambassadors
Our Ushers Ministry and Intercessory Prayer Team serve as front-line ambassadors for Morning Star.   Our Intercessors bathe our sanctuary, members and visitors in prayer – before, during and after Worship events.  Our Ushers are our logistical ambassadors handling seating and distribution of materials to ensure members and visitors enjoy a pleasant Worship experience.  Express an interest in these ministries by completing a Ministry Interest Form.

Supporting Our Worship and Arts Ministries
In addition to the “out front” ministries (singers, dancers), there are a number of ministries which support our Worship & Arts presentations.  From our Audio Visual Ministries, whose volunteers ensure the congregation “sees “ and “hears” quality sound and video presentations; to our Media Sales and Bookstore Ministries which produce and distribute ministry materials including CD’s, DVD’s, books and special products.  These ministries also welcome your involvement.  Volunteers are needed to operate cameras, edit videos, work the sound board for ministry activities and staff the production and sales aspects for our media and book sales. • Star Media Sales Ministry
• Solomon’s Corner Bookstore

Children

We believe children are a gift from God …

The Bible urges us to train up a child "train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."  Morning Star takes this charge seriously – and operates a Children’s Ministry that ministers to the spiritual, intellectual and physical needs of elementary school children.  Events and programs are offered to all children and are conducted in a safe, Christian environment where staff and volunteers make meeting the needs of our young people the priority.

The Children’s Ministry offers numerous activities and ministry opportunities for children, including trips to area attractions.  There are also recurring events such as Resurrection Activities (April), Children’s Day (June) and Harvest Fest (Halloween).  Children can also sing on the Choir, dance with the Dance Ministry or minister with our Mime Ministry.  Complete a Ministry Interest Form for additional information.
